  • Netherland government host high level dementia summit

    In October the government of the Netherlands hosted a high level meeting on dementia. The one day meeting in the Hague brought together international leaders in government, research, and industry, as well as caregivers and advocates.  

  • G7 health ministers dementia meeting

    The G7 health ministers at their meeting in Nagazaki in May 2023 had a dedicated meeting on addressing the challenge of dementia organized by the Government of Japan, the World Dementia Council and the Health and Global Policy Institute.

  • Virtual pre-meeting: October 2022

    In October 2022 the Government of the Netherlands, with the World Dementia Council, hosted a virtual meeting on progress in research and care. Netherlands Minister for Long Term Care Conny Helder, WDC chair Professor Philip Scheltens, Professor Bart De Strooper, Dr Maria Carrillo,  Professor Charlotte Teunissen, Professor Philippe Amouyel, Professor David Sharp, Dr Greg Moore and Professor Wiesje van der Flier. Ahead of the meeting a collection of essays were published. 

  • Summit 2022: London

    The WDC Summit 2022 took place on 28 March 2022 at the Francis Crick Institute in London, UK. It brought together global dementia leaders, policymakers, and advocates to reflect on what has been achieved in the fields of research and care and identify public policy challenges that need to be overcome to accelerate progress.

  • Summit 2021: Virtual

    A revised WDC Summit 2021 took place virtually (originally planned to be held in London) on 6 December 2021 and focused on progress and challenges in the research field.

  • Global dialogue on early career scientists in dementia

    A global dialogue on early career scientists in dementia took place online on 10 November 2021 and gathered international leaders to discuss this area of focus as part of the dementia landscape project. This dialogue was led by Professor Anja Leist, co-chair of World Young Leaders in Dementia and Professor Paulo Caramelli, professor of neurology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

  • Global dialogue on lived experiences of dementia

    A global dialogue on the lived experience of dementia took place online on 1 November 2021 and gathered international leaders to discuss this area of focus as part of the dementia landscape project. This dialogue was led by Hilary Doxford, former Vice Chair of the European Working Group of People with Dementia, Alzheimer's Society ambassador and member of the World Dementia Council, and Maryna Lehmann, dementia advocate from South Africa and member of the World Dementia Council.

  • Global dialogue on psychosocial research in dementia

    A global dialogue on psychosocial research in dementia took place online on 26 October 2021 and gathered international leaders to discuss this area of focus as part of the dementia landscape project. This dialogue was led by Professor Anthea Innes, director of the Salford Institute of Dementia, University of Salford and Professor Huali Wang, director of the Dementia Care and Research Center, Peking University Institute of Mental Health.

  • Global dialogue on non-amyloid targets for disease modification

    A global dialogue on non-amyloid targets for disease modification took place online on 21 October 2021 and gathered international leaders across the research field to discuss future approaches to the development of disease modifying treatments as part of the dementia landscape project. This dialogue was led by Dr Maria Carrillo, chief science officer, Alzheimer's Association, and Professor Philip Scheltens, professor of cognitive neurology and director, Alzheimer Center, Amsterdam University Medical Centers.

  • Global dialogue on health systems readiness and dementia

    A global dialogue took place online on 7 July 2021 and assessed dementia and health systems readiness, gathering international leaders to discuss this area of focus as part of the dementia landscape project. This dialogue was led by Dr Margaret Hamburg, former Commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration and member of the World Dementia Council, and Professor Howard Bergman, Professor of Family Medicine, Medicine (Geriatrics), and Oncology at McGill University.

  • Global dialogue on dementia and an ageing society

    This global dialogue took place online on 30 June 2021 and examined dementia and an ageing society. It was co-chaired by Professor Shekhar Saxena, Professor of the Practice of Global Mental Health at Harvard and a member of the World Dementia Council, and Sarah Lock, Senior Vice President for Policy at AARP.

  • Global dialogue on data sharing for dementia research

    This global dialogue took place online on 9 June 2021. Chaired by Dr Lara Mangravite, president of Sage Bionetworks, and Dr Tetsu Maruyama, executive director of the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative (ADDI) and a member of the World Dementia Council, it explored advances made and the challenges that remain in data sharing for dementia research.

  • Global dialogue on dementia in low- and middle-income countries

    This global dialogue in the dementia landscape project series took place online on 11 March 2021. Chaired by Paola Barbarino and Meera Pattabiraman, the dialogue assessed what is to be done about ongoing and emerging challenges in developing regions of the world.

  • Global dialogue on clinical trials

    This global dialogue was a follow up to the previous gathering of international dementia leaders in November and was held online on 9 March 2021. It was chaired by Dr Maria Carrillo and Professor Philip Scheltens.

  • Global dialogue on technology for dementia

    This global dialogue in the dementia landscape project series took place online on 4 March 2021. Chaired by Jeremy Hughes and Vaibhav Narayan, this dialogue explored technology in prevention and the maintenance of brain health, technology to maintain and improve daily function, and technology that assists in the provision of patient-centred health and social care.

  • Global dialogue on prevention

    This global dialogue in the dementia landscape project series took place on 9 February 2021. Chaired by Professor Kaarin Anstey and Professor Philippe Amouyel, it was held online and convened international dementia leaders to look at the latest research in risk reduction and implementation of public health policies targeted at prevention.

  • Global dialogue on care

    This global dialogue in the dementia landscape project series took place on 5 February 2021. Chaired by  Professor Brian Lawlor and Paul Hogan, it was held online and convened international dementia leaders to look at advances in care.

  • Global dialogue on biomarkers and treatments

    This global dialogue in the dementia landscape project series took place on 18 November 2020. Chaired by Dr Maria Carrillo and Professor Philip Scheltens, it was convened online and gathered international dementia leaders to explore early detection and biomarkers as well as advances in treatment.

  • Summit 2019: Tokyo

    On 18 October 2019, global leaders and the international dementia community reconvened in Tokyo, Japan for the WDC's one-day, high-level summit, organised with Janssen Neuroscience and the Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI).

  • DFIs roundtable: Sydney

    As part of the project to present a global evidence base for dementia friendly initiatives, the WDC co-hosted a satellite roundtable event in Sydney, Australia, on 26 September 2019. Organised with the Government of Australia, international participants explored regional examples delivering dementia friendly initiatives.

  • FT dementia summit 2019

    The WDC partnered with the Financial Times for a dementia summit in London on 18 September 2019. We explored the latest advances in diagnosis and treatments, whilst addressing the challenges facing those responsible for bringing new ideas to life.

  • DFIs roundtable: Los Angeles

    As part of the project to present a global evidence base for dementia friendly initiatives, the WDC co-hosted a satellite roundtable event in Los Angeles, United States, on 16 July 2019. The event was organized with AARP and brought together stakeholders from across the world to discuss how dementia friendly programs are simultaneously seeking to change society whilst providing support for people with dementia.

  • Summit 2018: London

    On 5 December 2018, global leaders and the international dementia community came together once again in London, UK for the WDC's five-year progress summit, organised with the Wellcome Trust and Janssen Neuroscience.
