The World Dementia Council (WDC), established by the UK Government following the 2013 G8 Dementia Summit in London, works to drive global progress on dementia. Its mission is to support and challenge the international community to advance treatments, risk reduction, awareness, and quality care. Building international collaboration, the Council provides thought leadership and advocates for dementia as a global priority. It focuses on advocacy engagement by working with national organisations and through platforms such as the G7 and G20. It provides evidence-based insights to policymakers and builds international networks to foster collaboration. Chaired by Professor Philip Scheltens, with Dr. Joanne Pike as vice chair and Lenny Shallcross as executive director, the Council is guided by a board of international experts and government representatives committed to accelerating progress in the field.

  • Dr Joanne Pike elected new WDC chair

    The World Dementia Council elected Dr Joanne Pike, Alzheimer’s Association president and chief executive officer as its new vice chair. Dr Pike replaced Professor Philip Scheltens who has served as chair of the Council for the last three years. In this leadership role, Dr Pike will advance the organisation’s global efforts to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. Dr Pike currently serves as vice chair of the WDC.

  • WDC welcomes new members

    Nine new international leaders join the World Dementia Council. Members were appointed from Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa and the Americas. The new council members are drawn from different disciplines in the dementia field. 

  • WDC elects new trustees

    The World Dementia Council has elected three new trustees, Professor Paulo Caramelli, Professor of Neurology, Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, Professor Miia Kivipelto, Professor in Clinical Geriatrics at Karolinska Institutet, center for Alzheimer Research in Sweden, and Dr Joanne Pike President and CEO Alzheimer’s Association.
